About Us.The Scottish Amateur Flute Band Association nor this website have no political or religious affiliations.
The Association was founded in 1920.
The principal reason for the formation of the Association, and its principal purpose today, was the promotion of Flute Band music through the holding of competitions. The structure of the Association and its activities echoed those of similar Flute and Brass Band organisations in Ireland and England.
The association today has six member bands comprising of over 150 people in total. Bands are active community-based organisations participating in a wide range of community activities and providing a valuable additional resource in musical education.
The member bands have always been in the lead in adoption of new flute technology, this continues with the current adoption of contra and sub-contra bass flutes. Equally, the percussion sections in our bands have evolved into mini-orchestral percussion sections. See more in the "What is a Flute Band?" page .
The association organises two principal competitions each year, open to entrants from outside Scotland. The excellent Flute Bands from Northern Ireland are strong supporters of these events.
